Jon Lybrook : Re-Cognition of Sensation
|
Boulder, Colorado -- July 11, 2012 ...The artwork of Jon Lybrook will be on display from August 6 through September 30, 2012 at Hapa Sushi on Pearl Street in Boulder.
Jon Lybrook's work combines techniques of both painting and traditional darkroom photography to produce colorful, contemporary, non-figurative compositions called luminograms, which are then enlarged and printed on paper. Influenced by the photographs and paintings of the abstract expressionists and avant-garde filmmakers such as Stan Brakhage, Jon Lybrook works with traditional, silver-based film and darkroom photochemicals to create his work, which is then enhanced and sometimes combined with digitial photographs.
"The superior resolution of traditional, silver-based film produces a unique depth to the work, which I then scan as large-format transparencies, tweak, and print digitally." Lybrook said. "I like to use the forms created naturally and enrich the inherent colors created through the process without imposing too much of my own editing on the piece."
The show of large-format prints mounted on canvas will be on display from August 6 through September 30, 2012 at Hapa Sushi at 1117 Pearl Street in Boulder. The hours of Hapa Sushi on Pearl Street are Sunday-Wednesday 11:30am-10pm and Thursday-Saturday 11:30am-Midnight.
