More on Imagesetter recommendations

This is a posting made on the INKTERACTION! forum regarding imagesetter recommendations. We at Intaglio Editions have not contacted Mandel Graphics in Milwaukee yet, but will soon. Please contact me directly if you have other good sources for reliable imagesetter vendors. Thanks! - Jon Lybrook

Hi All,

One of the secrets to getting smooth tonality and a large number of tones in photogravure using polymer is to have a high-resolution, stochastic aquatint screen.

At Intaglio Editions in Boulder, Colorado we have a large number of such screens we commissioned several years ago, and enough to keep us working for decades, however I am curious if there is anyone out there who has access to any services bureaus that still use imagesetters, who know how to use them in a professional capacity, and who actually maintain them.

My understanding is these technological behemoths of imaging have all gone the way of the buggy whip for the most part, so please don't respond with these kinds of answers. It's not news. If, however you know of a reputable person or vendor still using them professionally, I'd be interested to learn about them.

Thanks!

Jon Lybrook

They specialize in film and graphic prep for screenprinters but can do just about anything. Also, you can pick up high end linotronic and similar imagesetters fairly cheaply as they are used less and less (but you know all that, right) not sure if that is the company line or Rick's, tell him Andy Mac (from the Academy) referred you

Thanks for the suggestion Andy. I will give them a call. Anyone else with imagesetter recommendations, please continue to post here. Thanks in advance!
